It started in a hammock, under a coconut palm, in Fiji...
On a family holiday in Fiji, we conceived the idea for Hard Coco—a pre-mixed coconut water cocktail. Could it work? We weren't aware of anyone doing it in Australia. A quick Google search revealed it existed in the States, but not quite as we envisioned. Water + vodka + a splash of coconut water? Soda water + coconut water and vodka? No, we wanted something bursting with flavour, something v. delicious, a drink that makes you go, "OMG, what is f* is this!?”
So, we decided to go all in with 100% coconut water, adding fruit juice to create a flavour range, and using pure rice vodka for the alcohol. Yes, 100% coconut water is expensive, but darn, it's so good—those naturally occurring electrolyte salts enhance the fruit juice flavours and make the drink incredibly tasty and refreshing. After a fruitless (joke) search for a coconut water producer in Australia we found a supplier in Vietnam who produces some of Australia's top coconut water brands, and they agreed to work with us. After nine months of fine-tuning the recipe, here we are, finally ready to share it with everyone.
This drink is envisioned to be savoured, to be sipped with your head held high, soaking in the surroundings of the wonderful people and environment you're in.
